We have been together since my 4th year at Seng Hup. (I was there for 7) When I left for Accord, she came along and we were there for 10 yrs. We both joined MPC in 2000 and left 2 years later. Since then, I've been with Oceantop and …. she’s here too.
Though she’s with me day in day out, it’s easy to forget her existence and take her for granted. Most times I ignore her even though I acknowledge she has faithfully trudged along without complaint each time I changed jobs. I haven’t always been gentle with her, that much I admit. Yet she quietly puts up with my harsh treatments without a whimper or a moan nor has she given any indication of giving up on me.
It took a comment from a friend who came by yesterday, someone I’ve known since my Accord days, to make me realize truly how loyal she has been. It suddenly struck me that it’s truly amazing how she had withstood the test of time despite my roughness and clumsiness. 21 years (and counting) is certainly a long time to stick with somebody through thick and thin.
Oh did I tell you I was referring to my MUG?
Perhaps, in a way I do love her. Had I not, would I have insisted she followed every time I changed job or moved office? There were times when I had forgotten where I had placed her. It would have been easier to just get a replacement but I remember looking high and low till I found her again. Mind you she’s no beauty but I have grown so accustomed to her that indeed, it would be a sad day for me when the time comes for her to be replaced....
